Model and image consultant, Sara Meucci 28 also known as Miss Swirl on Instagram from Florence, Italy, lost her hair after she started to suffer with the compulsive hair pulling disorder, trichotillomania when she was 12 as an anxiety relief. Sara started by only pulling out an eyelash but her irresistible urge to pluck more hairs from their roots spread to her eyebrows and eventually to the hair on her head. Incredible pictures show how Sara, who started out as a nude model, has embraced her difference and is now using it to inspire others. But I think we can work on that. Trichotillomania is an impulse-control disorder where the person is unable to stop themselves from pulling their hair, often from their head, eyelashes or eyebrows. Sara posts pictures on her Instagram page that she thinks will help other women like her and she often receives messages from people affected by hair loss thanking her for sharing her journey. I have fought so much to grow as the person I am. My friends hugged me so hard, I still get chills at the thought of it. For more information see www.
We love any story that's a inspiring and b in aid of a very good cause, so Pretty Bald is a new campaign we had to tell you about. Designed to raise awareness and money for Alopecia UK, 12 smart women have posed naked in a gorgeous calendar. All with no hair, 11 of the 12 women featured have alopecia, where the body's immune system attacks the hair follicles and subsequently causes hairloss. Alopecia UK is a small charity that offers one-to-one support for thousands, helping men, women and children, thus deserving that extra boost of awareness.
By Deni Kirkova for MailOnline. A unique nude calendar challenges perceptions of beauty with its twelve stunning models - who all have no hair. The charity calendar from PrettyBald is themed around a girls' country weekend. Each photo features a country house, fast car, croquet, tea party - or even wellies - and of course beautiful bald models baring all. The light-hearted pictures also feature wigs in places one wouldn't normally find them. Scroll down for video. The front cover of PrettyBald's charity calendar features alopecia sufferers. The fundraising calendar wants to show that bald is beautiful to anyone who has no hair, whether they have cancer, thinning hair, scarring or alopecia. All of the models have alopecia and the calendar will raise funds for Alopecia UK. Organiser Victoria says: 'Having had Alopecia for nearly three years, I'm pretty comfortable in my own skin and am really open about Alopecia, mostly because I have a fantastic support network.
